The Watchman: a review

Well, hello everyone. My name is Ben and I have recently graduated from Bournemouth University studying BA Computer Visualization and Animation. Now that it's over I am writing this blog to let anyone who is interested know about any projects that I am undertaking from now on and details of there production. It's also a great way to get involved in the online animation community and I hope to post interesting animation-stuff that I come across on my travels.

This is my final year major project, "The Watchman", which took me from October 2009 to May 2010 to complete (with some other projects on the side). The soundtrack is by the talented Haowei Guo.

It's better to use the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZr6wWOjOpI

After two years of studying to decide what areas of 3D computer animation production I don't enjoy, this project was the chance to do what I love doing: animating! However, coming for an insecure 1st year and an improving 2nd I wanted to have a go at everything so I ended up setting myself
the challenge of completing a broad project by myself. This meant I was doing all of the pre-production design, concept work, 3D modelling, rigging, texturing, animation, lighting, rendering and post-production compositing myself.

It's not the project that I envisioned at the beginning but still I'm quite happy with it. There are some nice bits of motion and the lighting and rendering was much better than I thought and the character design is quite interesting. I hope to give my future productions a greater animation focus however.
